Autelix supplies and fits smart locks for homes, businesses and rental properties across Nottingham and the East Midlands. Keypad, app-controlled, fob and biometric options - we handle the full smart lock installation from door assessment through to setup and app training. Whether you want to manage access remotely, give time-limited entry to guests or tradespeople, or simply remove the risk of lost keys, we fit the right lock to your door and make sure it works before we leave.
Smart locks replace or sit alongside your existing door hardware and give you control over who enters and when - without physical keys. We supply and fit four main types.
Keypad smart locks use a PIN code to unlock the door. They suit front doors, rental properties and any setting where you want entry without carrying a key. Codes can be changed quickly - useful when a code has been shared widely or a tenancy ends.
App-controlled smart locks connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. You lock and unlock the door remotely, receive entry notifications and grant or revoke access from anywhere. Some models integrate with smart home platforms; we advise on compatibility during the survey.
Fob smart locks work on the same proximity principle as modern car locking - hold the fob close, the door opens. They are a practical choice for commercial premises where staff turnover makes key management difficult, since fobs can be deactivated individually without rekeying the lock.
Biometric smart locks use fingerprint readers to authenticate entry. They suit high-traffic commercial settings or residential clients who want a keyless, code-free option. Fingerprints are stored locally on the device - there is no cloud dependency for basic operation.
Most smart lock ranges also carry a physical key override as a backup option, which we cover in the FAQ below.

Smart lock installation is a security upgrade as much as a convenience change. The practical benefits go beyond not carrying a key.
Time-limited access means you can issue access for a specific window - a delivery slot, a cleaner's regular hours, a guest's stay - and have it expire automatically. No key to collect afterwards, no risk it has been copied.
An audit log of entries gives you a record of who entered and when. For landlords, holiday let operators and businesses, this is a meaningful operational tool: you know the boiler service happened, you know what time the last guest left, you know whether a staff member was on site.
Remote access via an app lets you unlock the door for someone without being present. A family member locked out, a contractor starting earlier than planned - you handle it from your phone rather than driving across the city.
No lost-key risk. A lost key to a conventional lock is a security event - the cylinder needs changing. With a smart lock, a lost phone or fob is managed in software. Revoke access, issue a new credential, and the door is secure without any hardware change.
Smart locks complement rather than replace your existing door security. On a composite or uPVC door with a multipoint locking mechanism, the smart lock operates alongside the multi-point system - the structural security stays, the access management improves.

Smart lock installation requires the lock to be fitted correctly to the door - a poorly installed unit that compromises the door's security or voids the door warranty is worse than no upgrade at all. We assess the door before recommending a product.
uPVC doors are the most common type across Nottingham's residential streets. Smart cylinders and smart lock modules that integrate with the existing multipoint mechanism are available for uPVC, and we carry the correct sizes for the door thicknesses we encounter regularly.
Composite doors are denser than uPVC and often use the same multipoint format. Smart lock compatibility depends on the door brand and the locking hardware already fitted - we confirm this during the assessment. For composite doors where the lock itself needs updating at the same time as the smart upgrade, see our lock change service.
Timber doors with mortice locks can accept smart lock furniture - smart handles, keypads and connected deadbolt replacements are all available, depending on the existing mortice case and backset. We check the door thickness, the lock case and the rebate before specifying a product.
Across all three door types, the fitting process is the same: assess first, specify the right product, fit it properly, test it fully. We do not fit a smart lock that leaves the door less secure than it was.

We carry out smart lock installations alongside our full locksmith and auto locksmith service across Nottingham and the East Midlands.

Residential smart locks give homeowners and tenants a practical security upgrade without changing the look of the door. App-controlled and keypad models are the most popular residential choice - they suit families who want to manage access for children, cleaners or regular trades, and anyone who has moved into a property and wants certainty over who holds access credentials.
Landlords and HMO operators in Nottingham find smart locks particularly useful. Self check-in is the obvious application - guests or tenants let themselves in via an app or keypad without a key handover. Between tenancies, changing the access code takes seconds and costs nothing compared to a cylinder swap. For HMOs, different access levels can be set per unit so tenants have access to their own space but not communal areas outside agreed hours. For broader landlord locksmith services including key safes and planned tenancy changeover scheduling, see our landlord locksmith page.
Holiday lets and serviced accommodation benefit from the same self check-in capability combined with the audit log. Operators know exactly when guests arrived and left, and remote access via app means you can handle a missed checkout or a late check-in without being on site. Access for cleaning teams can be scheduled and automatically revoked - no chasing keys between bookings.

Smart locks sit at the lower end of the commercial access control spectrum - they are the right choice for smaller offices, studio units, back-of-house doors and any commercial setting where full access control panels are more than the job needs.
Keypad locks are the practical choice for commercial settings with moderate footfall. A single shared PIN for staff, a separate temporary code for contractors, and immediate code change when someone leaves - all without rekeying a cylinder or calling a locksmith.
Fob smart locks scale better in settings with higher staff numbers. Each fob is individually enrolled and can be removed from the system if lost or if the holder leaves. There is no risk of an unreturned key circulating.
Biometric locks are suited to higher-security commercial applications - server rooms, pharmacy dispensaries, cash-handling areas - where you need certainty about who physically entered and when.
For commercial premises with more complex access requirements - multiple entry points, zoned access for different staff grades, and full audit logging - we also offer a full access control installation service. For broader security work across a commercial site, see our commercial locksmith page.

A smart lock that is fitted but not configured correctly is a liability. We treat setup as part of the installation, not an optional extra.
Once the lock is fitted and tested mechanically, we configure it to your requirements. That means adding the initial keyholders, setting any time-limited access schedules, and testing the remote access function if the lock supports it. For app-connected locks, we pair the lock to your phone on site and confirm the connection is stable before packing up.
App training covers the day-to-day operations you will actually use: adding and removing users, checking the entry log, locking and unlocking remotely, and what to do if the app loses connection. Most apps are straightforward, but knowing where the settings are and what to look for if something seems off is worth fifteen minutes on site.
We also cover the physical backup - how to use the key override if the battery runs flat or the app is unavailable, and how to change or reset the battery without losing your settings.
