uPVC Door Lock Repair in Nottingham
uPVC Door Lock Repair in Nottingham
Multipoint mechanisms, cylinders and handles fixed on site - no call-out fee

Your uPVC door will not lock. The handle lifts but nothing engages, or everything engages and then the key refuses to turn. Either way the door is stuck open or stuck shut, and neither is something you can leave until the weekend. Most uPVC door lock repair in Nottingham comes down to one of three parts, and telling them apart is most of the job.
Autelix repairs uPVC and composite doors across Nottingham on site. We carry mechanisms, euro profile cylinders and handles in the van, so most jobs are finished on the first visit. There is no call-out fee, and we are typically with you in 30-45 minutes.
When a uPVC door stops locking
The same handful of warning signs come up again and again:
The handle lifts but feels loose, and nothing engages in the frame
The handle lifts correctly but the key will not turn
You have to lean on the door or lift it before it will lock
The key turns freely and nothing happens
The door locks but will not open again from outside
The handle has dropped and now sits lower than the one on the other side
Sagging door handles and door dropping are the two most commonly misread. Both feel like a lock fault from the outside, and usually neither is.

It usually is not the lock
Three separate parts fail, they cost very different amounts to put right, and they are easy to confuse.
The euro profile cylinder is the barrel the key goes into. It is the cheapest part on the door and the quickest to change.
The multi-point locking system is the long strip down the door edge carrying the hooks, rollers and deadbolt. The gearbox in the centre of it is what the handle drives. When that fails, no amount of new cylinders will help - and a gearbox is a bigger job than a cylinder swap.
The door hinges hold everything in alignment. When a door drops on its hinges the hooks no longer line up with the keeps in the frame, so the mechanism jams against them. That is an adjustment, not a replacement.
Getting the diagnosis right is most of the job, and it is where uPVC door repairs go wrong most often. We work out which of the three has actually failed before quoting, because guessing wrong inflates repair bills with parts the door never needed.

uPVC Door Repairs
uPVC door lock repair in Nottingham: what we fix
We cover the whole door, not just the barrel. Most of these are single-visit jobs.
Multi-point lock repairs and full mechanism replacement, including gearbox failure
Key locking cylinders and euro cylinder changes
Door lock replacements on uPVC and composite doors
Lift lever handles, including sagging or snapped handles
Door hinges, keeps and alignment where the door has dropped
Window locks, window handles, window hinges and window and door repair on the same visit
Letter boxes and door furniture
Automatic multi-point locking doors, which lock on closing rather than on the handle lift
We also fit smart locking technology where you want keyless entry on a uPVC or composite door - see smart lock installation.
If you are locked out and the door will not open at all, that is an emergency locksmith job rather than a repair, and we treat it as one. See lock change if the lock needs replacing outright.
Where a snapped key has been left in the cylinder, we extract the fragment before assessing whether the barrel needs replacing.
Multipoint mechanism and gearbox
The long strip in the door edge carrying the hooks and rollers. A failed gearbox is the most common cause of a handle that lifts but does not engage, and it means replacing the mechanism - the gearbox is not sold separately on most designs.
Euro cylinder and handles
The cheapest and quickest parts to change. Cylinders are a standard format, so an upgrade is a direct swap once measured. Lift lever handles that have dropped or snapped are replaced on the same visit.

Snapped cylinders, anti-snap and door insurance upgrades
Lock snapping is the common forced-entry method on uPVC doors in Nottingham. A standard euro cylinder can be snapped at its weak point and the mechanism operated directly, often in seconds and quietly.
Anti-snap technology solves it. An anti-snap cylinder is built to break at a sacrificial line, so the outer section shears away and leaves the working part of the cylinder intact and still locked. Cylinders are rated under the TS007 star system, and Sold Secure Diamond is the other mark worth knowing. For timber doors, the relevant standard is BS3621 rather than TS007 - different mechanism, different rating system.
If your insurer has asked for a specific standard, tell us what it says and we will fit to it. We would rather read the wording than assume it. Door insurance upgrades are usually a cylinder change rather than a whole new mechanism, so they are less disruptive than people expect.
Our anti-snap locks page covers the security side in more detail.

Emergency board-up and glass replacement
If a door or window has been forced or broken, we board up to make the property secure the same visit, and replace broken glass. Making the opening safe comes first; the permanent repair follows once you know what the insurer needs.
Where a door has been forced, the mechanism and the frame usually both need looking at, not just the glass. See burglary repair for what that involves.

What it costs and how quickly we get there
We do not charge a call-out fee. You pay for the job, not for us turning up.
Beyond that, the price depends on which part has failed. A cylinder change sits at the low end. A full multi-point mechanism costs more, because the part costs more and the door has to come apart to fit it.
Tell us the symptoms and, if you can, send a photo of the door edge with the door open. Whatever we quote is agreed before any work starts. A fast response time matters most when the door will not lock at all, so those calls go to the front of the queue.
We repair uPVC and composite doors across Nottingham and the surrounding areas, including Arnold, Carlton, Clifton, Hucknall, Eastwood, Kimberley, Beeston, Stapleford, West Bridgford, Mapperley, Gedling, Bulwell, Sherwood, Aspley and Sandiacre, out to Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Worksop, and west into Derbyshire for Long Eaton and Ilkeston.
